Feedback on me

I will first off say that regardless of whether or not peer feedback holds any weight in the grading process, I think this is a strong step in the learning process. I won’t lie, I expected all the feedback on me to be positive. For the most part it was. There was one exception. One person in the class found my outgoing sarcastic view on things to be annoying. This person also said at times my opinions seemed overbearing. I would like to thank this person for being honest and saying what they really feel. It doesn’t matter who said it. I’m not gonna come to class and do an investigation on why someone doesn’t like me. Theres 30 students in the class, and with us all constantly being forced to work together, there are bound to be personality traits that some don’t like. The receivers fact states The receiver is totally in control of feedback, but the control is not necessarily conscious. This person may have just been upset with me at the time and if I asked them to truly examine their comments about me, they may realize what they said is not exactly what they meant. Like I said, for the most part my feedback said I was outgoing, opinionated, good listener, good leader, and good speaker. I am very appreciative of the positive feedbacks, but it will be the 1 negative feedback I received that will help me the most in life.

Sports Team Long Term Goals

We all have our information, our articles, our photos, and our contributions on paper to the wiki. A long term goal for the Sports Team is for us to figure out how we want to manage this information. We have been brainstorming ideas on where things should go and what format we want to use. There are only 3 of us and we are not the most technically sound people. We need to learn how to load our work onto the wiki or we need someone from the Tech team to help us with our work.

Over the last 2 weeks the sports team (Matt W, Aaron and Mike) has come up with many ideas for posting photos, articles, and information about athletics at UMASS. Aaron has photos of the sports stadiums and arenas at UMASS including Mullins Center, McGuirk Alumni Stadium, and Garber Field. As a division 1 baseball player, he gives an all access pass to his daily activities from sun up to sun down and everything in between. Matt W will provide a link to the UMASS Intramural Calendar and will give information on what is needed and where to go to sign up for intramural sports. Mike will provide a link to the WMUA Sports section and provide information on what exactly his life is like as a sports broadcaster on the radio and how easy it is for students to get involved.

E-mail homework thing

Its bad enough my brother woke me up this morning looking for a pair of socks, now I get homework via e-mail. Anywhoo….the quote says this ‘Making the site is not the end, indeed, at the most important level it is only the beginning. We need time to evaluate what we produce or the production itself will have gotten us only halfway toward the goal.’ I completely agree with this and I feel we may be in somewhat of a rush with only 3 classes to go. I could be wrong and for all I know everything could turn out great. But my prediction of the end result and the evaluation of the process will be we spent too much time in the middle of the class period (March) screwing around and time will become the enemy.

Sports Team

The Sports team is currently made up of myself, Aaron and Matt W.

And yes my blog name is Princess3.

We had a very positive discussion in class today. Aaron is a pitcher on the UMASS baseball team and he can provide a lot of insight to what its like being an athlete on campus.

Matt W seems to play every Intramural sport known to UMASS. He can provide a lot of information on what intramural athletics are all about along with how to get involved in intramurals.

I have a lot of experience here at UMASS with the media aspect around athletics and broadcasting. I have broadcasted baseball softball basketball womens basketball football hockey and lacrosse here at Umass. I also host a weekly sports show on the campus radio station.

Together, our mini GROUP of 3 can really touch on every aspect of athletics around campus.

“I didn’t think the author was literally referring to his eyes. Instead, I thought he meant it figuratively. That is, he meant to say, examine me closely . . . as I read I found there was a double meaning.”

I completely agree with what this person is saying. This is how I would probably interpret this phrase.

“I already knew a little bit…this was something that people would say to the child…”

Yes and no. You would say this to a child to try and get their attention, but this is also a phrase one could say to someone of any age to demand their attention and let them know you are very serious about this matter.

“…people could not see what he was seeing…”

True, hard to base a validating argument about the fragment when you don’t know the background info or what was going on outside the frame.

I was not in class last week, but I have been spending a lot of time reading everyones blogs and postings and I have no idea what happened in class last week but from what I am hearing it seems like it went really well. From what I read it also looks like the class has come to a conclusion on what we are going to do for our course wiki. Maybe last class Steph came out and just told us what we are doing? Because before we went on break it seemed like we were nowhere near a conclusion. Nonetheless, maybe me not coming to class was the solution? Maybe I am the one holding us back? Maybe the best thing I can contribute to the class is just not showing up the rest of the semester? I mean, I just wanna do whats best for the class. Im a team player. If its what I can do for the team Id like to go ahead and do it. The ironic thing is, I bet if I polled the class and got a unanimous vote to keep me as far away from the classroom as possible, that may be accepted as a valid excuse for missing class. Weeks go on, classes go on, some would say learning continues to go on, and yet I continue to comprehend nothing. I feel like an 11 year trying to figure out the ways of Mr. Feeny.

Opinion….What this class seems to be all about.

The word ‘opinion’ is probably not used in every day speech as much as its meaning suggests. We all have opinions and are thinking about them practically 24/7. When someone their opinion they are saying what they think. With that said, a person may decide to say everything on their mind or choose to only discuss certain topics, either way they are expressing opinions. If you look closely into the dynamics of group dynamics (no pun intended) you see we are all expressing our own opinions. Opinions can me created within the group setting, but how many of those opinions are actually expressed? There were a lot of thoughts and opinions being created in my mind and Im sure in everyone else’s mind during our last class. The big question is whether you decide to share your opinion and let everyone else in on what you are thinking. If you keep your opinions to yourself, no one can tell what you are thinking. Too many people are keeping to themselves in a COMMUNICATION class that emphasizes group communication. That means the sharing of opinions. Hmmm…. I wonder why it is week 7 and we still don’t know what we are doing?

Ive been thinking all week about attending the rally in Boston tomorrow. I really want to go, even though I would have to miss 2 classes to go. I am writing this a mere hour after the end of the Super Bowl, and right now I don’t even feel like leaving my bed. So many things I am frustrated with right now. Why don’t you kick a friggin field goal on 4th and 13??? WHY!?!? It makes no sense to me, I was screaming at the time why no field goal? The guys career long is 52, this would have been from 49!! Also, How the hell does Tyree make that catch on 3rd down?? In my lifetime I usually deal with loses like these a lot better than I am right now. Aaron Boone in ’03 was the worse, until now. There is just something about losing to New York that I can’t stand at all. With that all said, it is going to be hard enough for me to even move out of bed tomorrow, let alone drive to Boston and try and care about anything. I hope the rally goes well and I hope everyone who wants to go gets there and enjoys themselves. For me personally it is going to be a very tough day. I am going to have to restrain myself from wanting to hit anyone wearing a Giants jersey.
